Malta o priznanju Palestine

@lovinmaltaofficialPrime Minister Robert Abela has said that Malta will recognise the state of Palestine, hinting that this could happen as soon as 20th June, when a United Nations conference is set to take place. “After 45 years of discussion within our country about whether to recognise Palestine as a state, it will be a government led by me that will recognise a Palestinian state,” Abela said during an address. The Prime Minister said the time had come for Malta to officially recognise Palestine, pointing to the 20 June conference. A government spokesperson would not be drawn on the date or confirm whether the decision is conditional on the conference’s outcome. This conference is aimed at advancing global efforts towards achieving a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict. It will consist of eight thematic roundtables, with the goal of delivering concrete outcomes rather than just a reaffirmation of principles. Abela also condemned the devastating blockade on aid, especially food and medicine, which has only been slightly eased after three months and significant international pressure. Thousands of innocent people have died from starvation, and Abela argued that as a country, “we cannot accept this.” In recent days, Prime Minister Robert Abela has hinted that Malta could recognise Palestine next month. However, his initial commitment dates back to March 2024, when Malta signed a joint declaration with Spain, Ireland, and Slovenia in support of recognition. Since then, Abela has delayed the move, stating that Malta is waiting for the “right conditions” – though these conditions have never been clearly defined. His recent statements, however, suggest that such conditions may now be nearing. This comes as a growing number of EU member states adopt a firmer stance against Israel’s military campaign, particularly condemning the tightening of the humanitarian blockade three months ago.

Alao Al-Najjar in njeno družino.
